Sodium Nitrate
Sodium Nitrate (NaNO₃) is a white, crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water and widely used as an oxidizing agent, fertilizer, food preservative, and in explosives and pyrotechnics. Naturally found as the mineral “niter” or “Chile saltpeter”, it supplies nitrogen essential for plant growth, making it valuable in agriculture. In food, it helps preserve color and prevent bacterial growth in meats. Sodium nitrate is chemically stable but can support combustion, so it must be stored away from flammable materials.
